Welcome to Family And Consumer Sciences
Parents and students,
I am so excited to get to know your child as we explore Family and Consumer Science. In this hands-on class, empowering students to become young adults who successfully manage the challenges of independent living and working in our rapidly changing society is my primary focus. The class will aid students in answering the essential question: “What skills do I need to be successful in life?”
During class time, students will be learning through a combination of hands on activities, laboratory experiences, small and large group work, demonstrations, games, and class discussions. Each student’s involvement in class activities helps lead to both individual and group success. It is imperative that each student be willing to take responsibility for their own actions, learn to manage their time efficiently and use their time productively. The class will require (and hopefully INSPIRE) self-motivation and self-discipline.
Each grade level has an instructional focus throughout the semester which will be tested on (at the state level) as the semester comes to an end. Although these are the main instructional focuses for each grade level, students will be exposed to a variety of other life skills in this class as well. Below are the course titles for each grade level:
- 6th & 7th grade: Exploring Personal Characteristics & Careers
- 8th grade: Exploring Nutrition & Wellness
I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to be here and to partner with you in the education of your child! It’s going to be a great year!
